Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Release Date Announced
The next chapter in the Sonic the Hedgehog saga is speeding towards theaters! Paramount Pictures has officially slated Sonic the Hedgehog 4 for a March 19, 2027 release, according to Variety. While details remain scarce beyond the release date, anticipation is high following the phenomenal success of Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 achieved remarkable box office results, raking in $218 million domestically and over $420 million worldwide. This makes it the highest-grossing Sonic film to date, significantly surpassing the first film's $148 million. This success is particularly noteworthy considering the initial controversy surrounding the character's design, which underwent substantial revisions during post-production.
Furthermore, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 secured the position of the second highest-grossing video game movie in North America, trailing only the animated Super Mario Bros. Movie. The rivalry between Nintendo and Sega continues to play out on the big screen.
The live-action Sonic franchise continues to expand, now encompassing three feature films and a Knuckles-centric spin-off streaming series. The films, based on the beloved Sega games, follow Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz) as he battles his arch-nemesis, Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey). Each installment has introduced more iconic characters, including Tails (Colleen O'Shaughnessey) and Knuckles (Idris Elba), with Sonic 3 finally introducing Shadow the Hedgehog (Keanu Reeves).
