Sega Unveils Bold Initiatives: Project Century and Virtua Fighter
Sega's Risk-Taking Approach Fuels RGG Studio's Ambitious Projects
RGG Studio, the powerhouse behind the Like a Dragon series, is simultaneously developing multiple large-scale projects, including a brand-new IP. This ambitious undertaking is fueled by Sega's willingness to embrace risk and explore uncharted territory, according to RGG Studio Head and Director, Masayoshi Yokoyama.
Sega's Bold Investment in Innovation
With a Like a Dragon sequel and a Virtua Fighter remake slated for 2025, the addition of two entirely new projects is a testament to Sega's confidence in RGG Studio. The recent unveiling of Project Century, a new IP set in 1915 Japan, and a new Virtua Fighter project (distinct from the upcoming Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. remaster) underscores this commitment to innovation. These large-scale projects highlight Sega's trust in RGG Studio's capabilities and its desire to push creative boundaries.
Yokoyama emphasized Sega's acceptance of potential failure as a key factor in their success, stating that Sega doesn't shy away from projects that aren't guaranteed successes. He points to the creation of Shenmue as an example of Sega's innovative spirit, born from the question: "What if we made 'VF' into an RPG?"
RGG Studio assures fans that the simultaneous development of these projects won't compromise quality. Virtua Fighter creator Yu Suzuki has voiced his support for the new project, and the team, including producer Riichiro Yamada, is committed to delivering a high-quality, innovative experience.
Yamada promises a "cool and interesting" new Virtua Fighter experience, appealing to both longtime fans and newcomers alike. Yokoyama expresses his anticipation for both upcoming titles, promising exciting developments to come.
