The Last of Us Season 2: 'Brutal' Game Content Coming to TV
HBO's The Last of Us Season 2 will resurrect cut content from the original The Last of Us Part II video game, according to showrunner and Naughty Dog studio head Neil Druckmann. Druckmann revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the show will feature "pretty brutal" scenes, including elements from the "Lost Levels" partially restored in the PS5 remaster. These levels, including Jackson Party, The Hunt, and Seattle Sewers, offer a range of tones, from the relatively calmer party and boar hunt sequences to the intense horror of Ellie's encounter with monsters in the Seattle sewers.

The inclusion of this cut content promises intense viewing. Druckmann hinted that a previously unshown, "pretty prominent" character will also appear, echoing the Season 1 introduction of Frank.
Season 2 introduces a substantial new cast, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Tati Gabrielle as Mel. The addition of Catherine O'Hara in a mystery role adds further intrigue.
The first episode premieres in April, but the story's scope suggests a longer unfolding. Unlike Season 1, which adapted the first game completely, Part II's narrative will span multiple seasons. Showrunner Craig Mazin stated that Part II contains a vast amount of material, and while a Season 3 renewal is pending, Season 2 concludes with a "natural breakpoint" after seven episodes.
