Written by Aubrey Sitterson (No One Left to Fight) and illustrated by Jed Dougherty (Savage Hearts), with covers by Dougherty and Fico Ossio, Free Planet tells the story of humanity's first truly free planet and the revolutionary heroes tasked with protecting its unique energy source from hostile forces. Image Comics describes the series as a captivating blend of East of West's intricate history and Saga's emotional depth, exploring the complexities of freedom and the sacrifices it demands.
Sitterson describes Free Planet as a "literary comic," emphasizing its visual richness and complexity, designed for repeated readings. Dougherty highlights the shift towards a more serious tone in his artwork, reflecting the story's themes of internal conflict, resource defense, societal rebuilding, and the pursuit of justice and love.
