Predicting the Switch 2 Launch Games
With the Nintendo Switch 2's imminent arrival, speculation about its launch-day titles is rife. While an official lineup remains elusive, let's explore some likely and hoped-for contenders. Nintendo boasts a strong roster of established franchises, making some predictions – like a new Mario adventure – highly probable. However, we also anticipate exciting new projects from acclaimed indie developers.

While expecting all these games on day one is optimistic, even a partial release would make for a thrilling Switch 2 launch. Here are our predictions (and hopes):
Mario Kart 9
Over a decade since Mario Kart 8's Wii U debut, its Switch iteration, boosted by DLC, boasts 96 tracks, solidifying its status as a best-seller. A sequel is highly anticipated. Though a "new twist" was rumored in 2022, official confirmation is pending. We hope this "twist" innovates the series, ensuring another decade of success, ideally launching alongside the Switch 2.
New 3D Super Mario
The Switch surprisingly lacks substantial 3D Mario titles beyond Super Mario Odyssey (2017). A new 3D platformer, brimming with innovative gameplay, inventive level design, and abundant collectibles, is long overdue. A simultaneous release with Mario Kart 9 would be a monumental statement, though a staggered release would also be welcomed. Seven years is too long to wait for a new 3D Mario adventure.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
Metroid Prime 4, initially announced in 2017, experienced a prolonged development period, transferring from Bandai Namco to Retro Studios. Now titled Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, its gameplay trailer hints at a potentially Switch 2-optimized experience, fueling hopes for a launch-day release.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom Enhanced
Backward compatibility is expected, ideally including a performance boost for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Enhanced versions leveraging the Switch 2's rumored power, delivering crisp 4K visuals and smooth framerates, would be a welcome addition.
Ring Fit Adventure 2
Nintendo often includes unconventional titles at console launches. Ring Fit Adventure, a fitness-focused RPG, proved surprisingly popular. A sequel, showcasing new controller functionalities, would be a fitting addition to the Switch 2's launch lineup.
Resident Evil 4 Remake
While graphically demanding, the Switch 2 might handle Capcom's Resident Evil 4 Remake. Its inclusion would showcase the console's capabilities and offer a nostalgic return to Nintendo for this iconic horror title.
Doom: The Dark Ages
Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal graced the original Switch. With Microsoft's cross-platform strategy, Doom: The Dark Ages on Switch 2 is plausible, potentially timed with the console's launch.
The Haunted Chocolatier
Following the success of Stardew Valley, ConcernedApe's The Haunted Chocolatier is highly anticipated. Its launch alongside the Switch 2 would be a significant event, though a launch-year release might be more realistic.
Earthblade
Earthblade, the successor to Celeste, from Extremely OK Games, is a potential launch title. While updates have been infrequent, a 2025 release, aligning with the Switch 2, is possible.
The Switch 2's launch lineup holds immense potential. A blend of established franchises and innovative indie titles promises a compelling start for Nintendo's next-generation console.
