Giovanni Returns to Pokémon Go With Shadow Giratina

• The Taken Over event takes place from August 11th to 17th
• Shadow Kyogre will appear in raids on August 16th and 17th

As you get ready for the Max Finale event, Pokémon Go is experiencing increased chaos. Giovanni has returned, Shadow Kyogre is making its debut in Shadow Raids, and Delightful Days: Taken Over is causing disruptions from August 11th to 17th. Prepare for increased Team Go Rocket activity, new Shadow Pokémon, and plenty of rewards to collect.

Everything starts with Special Research that puts you on a direct path to confront Giovanni. Finish the storyline to obtain a Super Rocket Radar and face his Shadow Giratina before the deadline. You have until September 2nd to claim this research and rescue the renegade Pokémon.

Then from August 16th to 17th, Shadow Kyogre will appear in five-star Shadow Raids, presenting another tough battle and a chance to encounter its Shiny variant. During event hours, spinning Gym Photo Discs will grant one additional Raid Pass per day.

Grunts, Leaders, and Giovanni are changing up their teams, introducing new Shadow Pokémon such as Staryu, Fletchling, Pikipek, and Grubbin. You will also encounter one- and three-star Shadow Raids featuring Pokémon like Bellsprout, Absol, and Girafarig.

Additionally, Field Research tasks will reward TMs and Mysterious Components, and a themed Collection Challenge offers XP and a Rocket Radar. During the event, you can use a Charged TM to remove Frustration from Shadow Pokémon. If you have purchased the August Go Pass, you will already have a head start as part of the ongoing Delightful Days season.
