Onimusha: Gameplay Reveal Showcases Sword-Wielding Protagonist

Capcom unveils new gameplay footage for its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The trailer, showcased during the PlayStation State of Play, features the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi as the protagonist.

The gameplay showcases intense sword combat and formidable foes. Musashi's fighting style is depicted as both skillful and charismatic, hinting at a blend of action and comedic elements.

Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game featuring one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. Musashi's in-game likeness is reportedly based on the renowned actor Toshiro Mifune, known for his portrayals of Musashi in classic samurai films.

The game's setting is a demonic Kyoto, overrun by the malevolent force known as Malic, which is summoning hellish creatures into Japan. This marks the first new entry in the Onimusha franchise in two decades. To build anticipation, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
