Mugen Project Renamed to Ananta; Unveils Trailer

Remember Project Mugen, the anticipated urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain and NetEase? It's undergone a name change and is now officially called Ananta.

First revealed at Gamescom 2023, Ananta has finally unveiled a new trailer after a prolonged silence. More details are promised on December 5th, but for now, enjoy the official trailer:

The Name Change Enigma

The developers haven't yet explained the name change. Interestingly, both "Ananta" (Sanskrit) and "Mugen" (Japanese) translate to "infinite," a thematic consistency reinforced by the Chinese title.

The gaming community is divided on the rebranding, though relief prevails that the project hasn't been cancelled. Comparisons are already being drawn with Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. While Ananta's trailer is visually striking, its lack of gameplay footage leaves Neverness to Everness potentially ahead in many players' eyes. Personally, I find Ananta's aesthetic more captivating.

A Curious Turn of Events

Adding to the intrigue, the development team has deleted all previous social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of views. Only their Discord server remains, simply renamed. This fresh start has left many gamers puzzled.

In Ananta, players assume the role of an Infinite Trigger, a supernatural investigator confronting paranormal threats. The cast includes Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
