While you begin with basic equipment, the game offers opportunities to discover weapons better suited to your playstyle. Blending roguelike and extraction game elements, Hyper Light Breaker presents a unique approach to weapon acquisition. Here's how to acquire new weapons:

Acquiring New Weapons

Explore Overgrowths! New gear, including weapons, is discovered organically during exploration. Focus on sword (Blades) or pistol (Rails) icons on the map for targeted weapon hunts.

Blades are melee weapons with diverse movesets and special abilities. Rails are ranged weapons, each with unique functions. Both come in varying rarities, with gold being the most powerful. Rarity directly correlates with stats, as is typical in loot-based games.

To save weapons for later runs, press the Cache button instead of Equip when found in an Overgrowth. You can then equip them from your stash before starting a new run.

Obtaining New Starting Weapons

Enhance your starting loadout by purchasing weapons from merchants at the Cursed Outpost. Initially, only the Blades merchant is available. Unlock the Rails merchant by gathering sufficient materials to repair their shop.

Merchants have limited stock, but their inventories refresh periodically. Check back often to see what new weapons are available.

Weapon Upgrades

Upgrade your weapons at the Outpost merchants. However, the upgrade function must first be unlocked by increasing your affinity with the merchants. This requires Golden Rations, a rare resource found through exploration or cycle resets. Use these rations wisely, as they are difficult to obtain.

Death results in a durability loss (one pip) from equipped weapons. Repeated deaths will eventually break your gear.
