Hyper Light Breaker Multiplayer Guide: Friends and Random Teams

Hyper Light Breaker, the 3D rogue-lite successor to Hyper Light Drifter, introduces a significant multiplayer component. This guide details how to play cooperatively with friends and join random online matches.

Playing with Friends in Hyper Light Breaker

To play co-op with friends, you'll need to create a private multiplayer room. In the Cursed Outpost hub, approach the counter to the left of Pherus Bit.

Interact with the counter (typically R1 or RB) to access the Multiplayer menu. Select "Create Breaker Team." Enable "Password Required" and set a password. Invite up to two friends via your platform's social features (PSN, Xbox, Steam supported). The game supports three-player teams.

Invited friends will receive an in-game notification (if online) or can join using the provided link. Alternatively, your team might appear in the "Join Breaker Team" list, allowing friends to join directly. Remember to share the password with your friends.

Random Online Matchmaking in Hyper Light Breaker

If you lack friends playing Hyper Light Breaker, you can join public groups. In the Cursed Outpost's Multiplayer menu, choose "Join Breaker Team," then scroll down and select "Join Random Public Breaker Team."

The game will find an available public team (no password required) and place you in their session. After a brief loading screen, you'll join their game.

To leave a multiplayer session, return to the counter in the Cursed Outpost, open the Multiplayer menu, and select the "Disconnect" option (appears only when in a multiplayer session). Alternatively, quitting the game will also end the session.
