Halo-Inspired 'Splitgate' Announces Sequel
Splitgate 2: The "Halo Meets Portal" Sequel Arrives in 2025
1047 Games, the creators of the popular arena shooter Splitgate, announced a highly anticipated sequel launching in 2025. This new installment, aiming for a decade-long lifespan, promises a fresh take on the original's formula while retaining its core appeal.
A Modernized Classic
The cinematic announcement trailer (see below) showcases a visually enhanced experience built with Unreal Engine 5. While retaining the iconic portal mechanics, developers emphasized a refined gameplay loop designed for both casual and expert players. The goal? To make portal mastery rewarding without being mandatory for success.
Key features include a new faction system, adding strategic depth without transforming it into a hero shooter. Expect familiar elements, but with a completely revamped feel. Splitgate 2 will be free-to-play on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
Expanding the Universe
The game will introduce new characters, maps, and the aforementioned faction system, each offering unique playstyles. Choose from Aeros (dashing mobility), Meridian (tactical time manipulation), or Sabrask (brute force). While specific gameplay details remain under wraps, the developers assure that the trailer accurately represents the experience awaiting players.
More details, including gameplay footage, will be revealed at Gamescom 2024 (August 21-25). The developers confirmed dual wielding's return, along with the authenticity of the maps and weapons shown in the trailer.
No Single-Player, But Rich Lore
Splitgate 2 will not feature a single-player campaign. However, a companion mobile app will provide a deeper dive into the game's lore through comics, character cards, and a faction quiz to help players find their perfect fit.
Get ready for a fresh, exciting chapter in the Splitgate universe. The wait for Splitgate 2's 2025 release is sure to be filled with anticipation.
