New First-Party PlayStation Game Will Reportedly Be Inspired by Smash Bros

A PlayStation studio, recently formed from a group of former Bungie employees, is developing a MOBA titled "Gummy Bears." Initially conceived at Bungie, this project, reportedly in development since at least 2020, has undergone a significant shift.

Unlike previous Bungie titles, Gummy Bears is designed to appeal to a younger audience. Its unique selling point is a percentage-based damage system, reminiscent of Super Smash Bros., replacing traditional health bars. High damage percentages result in characters being knocked back, and potentially knocked off the map entirely.

The game will feature the standard MOBA character classes: Attack, Defense, and Support, alongside multiple game modes. The overall aesthetic is described as cozy, vibrant, and "lo-fi," a departure from Bungie's previous, grittier styles.

While the release date remains uncertain and years away, the game's development continues at the new PlayStation studio, which comprises approximately 40 employees. The transition to this new studio followed Bungie's 2023 layoffs and subsequent integration of staff into Sony Interactive Entertainment.
