FF7 Remake Trilogy's Future: PlayStation and Beyond
PS5 Launch Confirmed for FF7 Remake Part 3

PlayStation fans can breathe easy! Producers Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed during a January 23, 2025, interview with 4Gamer that FF7 Remake Part 3 will launch on the PS5. Addressing concerns stemming from the release history of previous installments, Kitase stated definitively, "No, you can rest assured about the next one (FF7 Remake Part 3)." While the PS5 is mid-lifecycle, the possibility of a PS6 release before the trilogy concludes remains unclear.
FF7 Remake Part 3 Release Date: Still Under Wraps

Square Enix remains tight-lipped about a concrete release date. However, development on Part 3 reportedly commenced alongside Part 2, with full production accelerating after Part 2's February 2024 release. Leveraging reusable assets and a completed story draft suggests the release might be sooner rather than later.
In a January 23, 2025, Famitsu interview, Hamaguchi offered an encouraging update: "It’s going very well...We are progressing without any delay from the schedule we planned when we launched the remake project, so we hope you will look forward to it." Kitase added that he's "very satisfied" with the completed story, hinting at a satisfying conclusion for fans.
Timed Exclusivity Expected for FF7 Remake Part 3

A March 6, 2024, Washington Post report indicated PlayStation secured timed exclusivity for the entire FF7 Remake trilogy. Following the pattern of previous installments (FF7 Remake: one-year PS4 exclusivity; FF7 Remake Intergrade: six-month PS5 exclusivity; FF7 Rebirth: timed PS5 exclusivity before January 23, 2025 PC release), Part 3 is likely to follow suit with a PS5 exclusive period before launching on other platforms.
Square Enix's Multi-Platform Strategy in Response to Declining Sales

Despite the FF7 Remake series' critical and fan acclaim, Square Enix's March 31, 2024, financial report revealed declining HD title sales. Citing increased development costs and advertising expenses, the company announced a shift towards a "multiplatform strategy" encompassing Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. This suggests future Square Enix titles, including potential future installments, may broaden their reach beyond PlayStation's ecosystem.
