Dynasty Warriors: Origins Character Switching Guide

Quick Links

In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you primarily play as the Wanderer, striving for peace. Your journey presents many choices, and companions frequently join you in battle. These companions fight alongside you, but you can occasionally take direct control. They're incredibly powerful, often surpassing the Wanderer in effectiveness, even with his upgrades. Here's how to switch characters:

How To Switch Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Character switching is only possible during battles where you have a companion. Before a battle, in the war council menu, your companion is the final selection. You can choose to fight alone, but you can't directly select a companion beforehand. Once the battle begins, your companion's health bar appears below yours in the bottom right.

Below their health bar is a blue bar, similar to your Musou gauge. This fills as you fight, increasing faster with:

  • Parrying attacks
  • Perfect dodges
  • Assaulting officers
  • Using Weapon Arts

Most combat actions contribute, albeit at varying speeds.

When your companion's blue bar is full, a "Change Character" button appears beside it. Press and hold this button for about a second to switch. This is the View button on Xbox, C on PC, or the Touchpad on PlayStation.

Playing As Other Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Switching characters is most effective during intense battles, as companions are exceptionally strong, and control is temporary (approximately one minute). The blue bar, once full, begins to deplete, showing your remaining control time. Your new character starts with full Bravery and a range of powerful combat arts.

The character switch initiates with a powerful attack, so aim carefully. Your companion also retains their own full Musou gauge and health bar, allowing immediate use of their special attack.
