DOOM, DOOM 2 Get Major Update

While eagerly awaiting the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, many players are revisiting the classic DOOM and DOOM II. The developers have recently resumed work on these titles, releasing an update that significantly enhances the experience.

This update for the DOOM + DOOM II compilation focuses on improving the technical aspects and adding new features. Crucially, support for multiplayer modifications has been introduced. Mods created using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM are now compatible. Cooperative play has also been enhanced, allowing all players to pick up items and introducing an observer mode for players waiting to be revived. Multiplayer network code has been optimized for smoother gameplay, and the mod loader can now handle more than the first 100+ subscribed mods.

Looking ahead to DOOM: The Dark Ages, accessibility is a key focus. The game will offer extensive customization options, exceeding those found in previous id Software titles. Executive producer Marty Stratton emphasized the team's commitment to making the game accessible to a wide range of players.

Players will be able to fine-tune various aspects of the gameplay, including enemy damage and difficulty, projectile speed and damage, game tempo, demon aggression, and parry timing. Importantly, Stratton confirmed that prior experience with the DOOM franchise is not required to understand the narratives in DOOM: The Dark Ages and DOOM: Eternal.
