Dishonored 2 Gets Surprise Update 9 Years After Launch

Surprise Patch for Dishonored 2 on Multiple Platforms
Dishonored 2, a critically acclaimed Bethesda title for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, has received an unexpected small update across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles. The update, a relatively minor download (230MB on Steam, requiring a full re-download on Xbox), appears to primarily address bug fixes and language support. This comes as a surprise, given Arkane Lyon, the studio behind Dishonored 2, is currently focused on developing Marvel's Blade.
The 2016 release of Dishonored 2 introduced Emily Kaldwin as a playable protagonist, expanding upon the original's acclaimed gameplay and level design, particularly memorable missions like "The Clockwork Mansion" and "A Crack in the Slab."
While Arkane Lyon continues its work on the Marvel project, the closure of Arkane Austin in 2024 (a studio responsible for the original Dishonored, Prey, and Redfall) has significantly impacted Arkane's development capacity. This unexpected update for Dishonored 2, however, suggests ongoing support for the title, even if it's not the substantial performance upgrade many players desired.
The lack of a 60 FPS mode for Dishonored 2 on current-gen consoles remains a point of frustration for fans, especially considering other Arkane titles' compatibility with higher frame rates. While a 60 FPS patch might arrive eventually, perhaps coinciding with the game's tenth anniversary in 2026, it remains unclear. The possibility of a third mainline Dishonored game is also uncertain, further complicated by Arkane Austin's closure. For now, Arkane Lyon's focus remains on its collaboration with Marvel Games for Marvel's Blade, a project without a confirmed release date.
