Diablo 4's Next Expansion After Vessel of Hatred Won't Come Until 2026

Disappointed Diablo IV fans hoping for a new expansion in 2025 will need to adjust their expectations. Diablo general manager Rod Fergusson revealed at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas that the next major expansion won't arrive until 2026.

While a content roadmap for Diablo IV's 2025 plans, detailing seasons and updates, is forthcoming (expected just before Season 8), the second expansion is notably absent. Fergusson explained that this is because the team aims to improve community engagement by providing more transparent planning, mirroring the approaches of Diablo Immortal and World of Warcraft.

The delay, though not fully explained, is partially attributed to the unexpected shift in the release timeline of Vessel of Hatred. Originally planned for a 12-month release window after Diablo IV's launch, it ultimately took 18 months due to the team prioritizing player feedback and live content adjustments. This reallocation of resources impacted the development timeline, pushing back subsequent content, including the next expansion.

Currently, Diablo IV players are enjoying the Season of Witchcraft, featuring new witchcraft powers, a questline, and more. The base game itself received a 9/10 rating, praised for its exceptional endgame and progression design.
