Controller-Enhanced PC Gaming: Unveiling a Superior Experience

PC gaming is traditionally synonymous with keyboard and mouse controls, particularly for genres like first-person shooters and strategy games that benefit from precise aiming and control. However, some PC games are arguably better experienced with a controller. Reflex-based movement and fast-paced melee combat often lend themselves well to gamepad controls, mirroring how certain genres, particularly those originating on consoles, translate to the PC platform.

While many PC releases offer keyboard and mouse support, several titles stand out as superior with controllers. The recent release of several high-profile titles in late 2024, such as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Infinity Nikki, Marvel Rivals, Path of Exile 2, and Delta Force, demonstrated that many games, while playable with a controller, are often optimized for keyboard and mouse. Even the Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered shows only a slight preference for gamepad use.

Several upcoming PC game releases in early 2025 show promise for controller-centric gameplay:

  • Freedom Wars Remastered: A PS Vita port echoing the Monster Hunter formula, suggesting controller suitability.
  • Tales of Graces f Remastered: The Tales series consistently performs better with gamepads, and this remaster is expected to follow suit.
  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Given the predecessor's superior controller experience on PC, and the similar combat system, this is likely to be controller-friendly.
  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2: A PS5 port to PC, often implying a primary focus on controller input, although keyboard and mouse may still be viable.

A 2024 Soulslike title has also been included in this updated list. See the quick links below for details.
