Confirmed: Robert Pattinson Will Not Be the DCU Batman
James Gunn and Peter Safran have confirmed that The Brave and the Bold will introduce a new Batman to the DC Universe (DCU), explicitly excluding Robert Pattinson.
During a DC Studios presentation, Safran and Gunn clarified that Pattinson's Batman remains exclusive to Matt Reeves' "The Batman Epic Crime Saga." Gunn stated definitively, "It's certainly not the plan. No." Safran added, "And we love him, but we've got to introduce a Batman into the DCU. That's imperative. And so that's the plan with The Brave and the Bold."
Earlier speculation regarding Pattinson's potential DCU-wide role stemmed from Reeves' ambiguous comments earlier this year. Reeves indicated a focus on his own saga, stating, "What the future brings? I can’t really tell you." However, he acknowledged collaboration with Gunn and Safran, highlighting their support for his creative vision. Safran expressed enthusiasm for The Batman Part 2, emphasizing its promising development.

The Brave and the Bold is currently in active development, with Gunn and Safran actively shaping the script. While Andy Muschietti's involvement as director remains uncertain, Safran indicated a plan to present the script to him for consideration. Gunn confirmed his significant contribution to the script, promising further announcements soon.
The Batman Part 2's delayed release (October 1, 2027) raises questions about The Brave and the Bold's release window. Safran offered only that October 2027 will feature a Batman film.
A brief Batman cameo in Creature Commandos Episode 6 showcased a familiar silhouette, hinting at the character's established presence and renown within the DCU, thus avoiding an origin story retelling. Gunn's comments to Rotten Tomatoes TV clarified the stylistic choice, emphasizing the intentional lack of detail.
Furthermore, Gunn hinted at a future team-up between the DCU Batman and Superman, stating, "This is the DCU Batman…He's the most popular superhero in the world and I can't wait for people to see more of him, along with Superman, and together.”
