Antarah: The Game takes you into the world of Arabian folklore, out now on iOS
Antarah: The Game, a new 3D action-adventure title based on the legendary Arabian folkloric hero, promises a thrilling reimagining of a well-known figure. While translating historical narratives into video games is notoriously challenging (think of the mixed reception of titles like Dante's Inferno), Antarah: The Game shows potential to be a successful example.
But who is Antarah? Formally known as Antarah ibn Shaddad al-Absi, he's often compared to King Arthur, albeit with key differences. A poet-knight, his pre-Islamic tales revolve around his trials to win the hand of his beloved, Abla.
The gameplay, reminiscent of Prince of Persia, features the hero traversing vast deserts and cities, battling numerous enemies. Despite its relatively minimalist graphics, the game's scale is impressive for a mobile title, although it lacks the detail of games like Genshin Impact.
A visually striking, yet potentially limited experience
While visually impressive, especially considering it appears to be a solo project, Antarah: The Game may suffer from a lack of variety. Trailers primarily showcase an expansive, orange desert setting. Although the animation is polished, the narrative's unfolding remains unclear, a crucial aspect for a historical drama.
Whether Antarah: The Game successfully immerses players in pre-Islamic Arabian folklore remains to be seen. You can download it on iOS and discover for yourself.
