The 25 Best-Selling Books Of All Time

Author : Connor Mar 15,2025

Compiling a list of the 25 best-selling books of all time is surprisingly challenging. Factors like varying editions, translations, abridgments, serializations, and even bulk distributions make precise sales figures nearly impossible to obtain. Inaccurate record-keeping and publishers' promotional exaggerations further complicate matters. There are simply too many unknowns to create an irrefutable list. Therefore, this list employs some self-imposed limitations:

We're focusing solely on literary fiction. This excludes religious texts, self-help books, political works, and other non-fiction. Notable omissions, like *The Lord of the Rings* (due to its complex serialization) and *The Count of Monte Cristo* (lack of reliable historical sales data), are also acknowledged.

Did your favorite cozy read make the cut? Do you think sales figures accurately reflect literary merit? Let us know in the comments! Also, be sure to check out the best-selling books of 2024 below for some newer titles to explore on your e-reader.
