Escape from Death

Seize Death’s power and escape his twisted domain!

Command soul magic to mask your living pulse from the dead while navigating deadly politics—determine the Afterlife's destiny, or claim its throne as your own.

"Escape from Death" is a 256,000-word interactive horror novel by Tova Näslund. This text-driven experience relies solely on your imagination, with no graphics or sound effects.

Your physical body lingers between life and death while your spirit is trapped in Death’s oppressive realm. Here, the Penitents—souls warped into animal hybrids—serve under the privileged Elect, who revel in luxury under Death's favor.

Now, deeper corruption spreads: performers vanish from entertainment halls, safe havens crumble, and a mysterious plague threatens all. Amid this chaos lies your chance to infiltrate the Clockwork Hall—heart of Death's court—where you might overthrow his tyranny, return to life, or crown yourself ruler.

* Choose your gender identity and sexuality: male, female, nonbinary; gay, straight, or bi.

* Romance a tormented Penitent guide, a fierce avian rebel, a deserting warrior, or a compassionate healer.

* Wield soul magic: peer beyond the veil, read others' deepest desires, and steal memories from the living.

* Shape the conflict: ally with oppressed Penitents or privileged Elect—or bridge both worlds.

* Operate stealthily or wage open war: evade Death’s notice, plant spies, forge alliances, or rise to legendary status.

* Decide the Afterlife’s fate: reinforce Death’s rule, crown another, or claim dominion yourself.

Will you escape Death’s grasp—or rule in his stead?
